When in France and close to Paris, Versailles Palace is a place to visit. Wow, that even rhymed nicely. The palace is one of the largest and most luxurious palaces in Europe, with 250 acres of French gardens and fountains. Be prepared for crowds as Versailles is visited by millions of tourists each year but it is a must-see landmark of France.
Sant'Ignazio di Loyola is a must see church when in Rome. The painted optical illusion fresco is an art piece by Andrea Pozzo, and it is magnificent. This church is grand, quiet and not filled with many tourists. It was a perfect refreshing stop for us.
People visit churches for many different reasons, faith, curiosity, appreciation for the buildings. To me, they all appeared to be the same. Quiet, dark with tall columns and high ceilings. I hated the long lines to all the famous ones. One book has changed my view and now that I know what I want to appreciate when I tour one, makes the experience that much more enjoyable and worthwhile.
